The Stanley Park Seawall – Part 2

Yesterday I published a few photos from around the Stanley Park Seawall. Here are a few more.

Stanley Park is described as the ‘jewel in the crown’ of Vancouver. The park rivals the size of the rest of the downtown peninsula and is a huge asset to both the city’s residents and tourists. Vancouver’s founders definitely made the right decision when they preserved the land as a park, way back in 1888.

The seawall is popular with runners, walkers and cyclists, even first thing in the morning. Of course, it helps when the weather cooperates.

I am trying to get in the habit of cycling around the Stanley Park Seawall a few times a week. I try to get out first thing in the morning, usually before work. The other day I brought my camera with me because, honestly, it’s takes my breath away every time. I never want to take this for granted.

Black and White Landscape, Ansel Adams Style

Ok, I am no Ansel Adams. But it is fun to try to emulate and play with what he did. For those who don’t know, he is best known for his black and white landscape images. Here’s another photograph from Red Rock Canyon in Nevada, this time given the monochrome treatment.

Blog Evolution

Things… they are a changing. A little anyway. The title for one thing. ‘Tim Barton Photography’ has become simply ‘Tim Barton’. It was too many words to remember. My other blog, Planning Picture, which was focused on urban planning and urban design issues will merge into the new blog. So I can now cover photography, urban design or any other issue I want to from a blog which is now just my name. For this reason I am hopeful that the merger will be more than the sum of their parts as I can write about whatever I feel like, with a more personal touch.

As for the mechanics of how this will happen, I will repost some of the more substantial Planning Picture posts onto this blog. Hopefully back dated to when they were originally posted, but you never know! I will also add a couple more menu options at the top of the blog, which will direct readers to only photography posts, or only urban planning posts.

Please let me know how I’m doing and whether you find what I’m writing about at all interesting!

This Photo was taken in the town of Hope, Alaska in June 2011. Hope is located on the Kenai Peninsula, south of Anchorage. Part of the town was destroyed by an earthquake on Good Friday, 1964.

Mount Revelstoke Flower Meadow

I recently got back from a family trip to The Rockies. We rented a car in Vancouver and drove to Banff, via Kamloops, Revelstoke, Golden and Jasper. I will post a few of the photographic highlights here. The first one is from the top of Mount Revelstoke. The reason I could get so low is because I’m actually standing about 1.5m below the base of the flowers, thanks to an adjacent retaining wall!
